About Melissa

Melissa Osgood, BA, art jeweler and goldsmith, creates works made with traditional techniques, elegant forms and modern simplicity. Her training began simply with a university course in Art Metals, to instruction at Seattle’s Pratt Institute of Fine Arts and finally earning a diploma in 2012 with hands-on training by goldsmith, Alan Revere, from the famed Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco.

The thing I learned most about my fiery inner self at Revere,
is patience. I would try to outsmart the process as often as possible only to learn that there really is a “right way” when working with metals. The traditional techniques I learned covered literally anything you can do when making jewelry — it was probably the most comprehensive and intense experience of my life and I am so grateful to Alan, Glenda and their team; for my bench mate, Michelle for the giggling and companionship (because the two of us = one jeweler, lol) and the cohort of 15 students with their array of talents as inspiration.

My current focus is exploring the idea of time — what is past, what is present and what is real and tangible here and now. In a world where it is hard to distinguish truth, I look to the stability of elements in my work as jewelry becomes very grounding for the wearer. Using our jewelry collections, we can choose an intention for our day influencing how we live our lives and I personally enjoy using jewelry as tangible affirmation of who I am and how I want to be in the world.

The Studio

My studio has been many places. Photos of working at my jewelers bench remind me of joyful epiphanies and also of challenging pieces that sent my heart pounding. In this space though, the light was pure magic, and comforting, where every moment felt like an opportunity.

The Maker

I often feel overwhelmed by seeing too many details — but this sensitivity becomes a gift when those impressions align with the concepts I’m exploring. When something resonates strongly, I begin shaping it into form. Each piece is developed first in my mind’s eye (the material, the process, the finish) before I sketch, gather what I need, and begin the making. It’s demanding work, and for me, it requires time and quiet reflection.

The Work

The intention in my work is to embrace what is real and create meaningful, lasting jewelry that grounds us in everything we do. Each piece is designed to feel natural on the body and offer a deep sense of connection to the world around us. I am driven to create work that inspires a sense of calm and ease, and the confidence to either push our boundaries or define them.
